Transgender Community Celebrated at Madison Event

MADISON, Wis. – Madison’s east side was buzzing this weekend with the kickoff of a series of art installations, music, and celebrations in honor of the transgender community. Hosted by Giant Jones Brewing, this third annual event served as a prelude to the International Transgender Day of Visibility, which falls on the following Sunday.

Jessica Jones, the owner of Giant Jones Brewing, is a trailblazer in the trans community. Her brewery, which has been Madison’s only organic brewery since 2013, served as the perfect venue for this celebration of diversity and inclusion.

In an interview with WMTV, Jessica Jones highlighted the importance of representation and visibility for the transgender community. “Being a trans woman in a high-profile role, at least within the queer community, makes more space for people to be themselves in all sorts of ways,” she said. “Specifically for trans people in a direct line, but when we create space that welcomes more people and more people are part of communities and conversations, that creates more space for everybody.”

One of the highlights of the event was the unveiling of two new art pieces by trans painter Rae Senarighi. The original portraits depict members of the trans community and aim to provide a sense of visibility and representation for those often marginalized in society.

“I want them to walk into the space. I want their family to walk into the space and see, like, oh, that’s me, or that’s my loved one,” Senarighi shared. “Seeing that both of them felt seen and felt like they were represented means the world to me, and that’s my highest goal.”

The event was not only a celebration of the transgender community but also a platform for raising awareness and fostering dialogue around issues faced by transgender individuals. Through art, music, and community engagement, Giant Jones Brewing succeeded in creating a welcoming and inclusive space where everyone could come together to celebrate diversity.

As the sun set on Madison’s east side, the sounds of music and laughter rang through the air, a testament to the power of community and the spirit of resilience within the transgender community. With events like this, Madison continues to solidify its reputation as a city that embraces diversity and champions inclusivity.
