Very nice job, I want to make this too! Thank you for sharing, Trent and Linnea! For the failed rise, yes activating is important but i wanted to say something because i didnt hear you mention it. Rising your dough in a warm place, 80 to 90 F, makes yeast very happy and rise very well. My oven preheats very quickly so usually i rise it in the oven set to warm and once it gets warm i turn it off so i dont over heat and kill the yeast. Once its done rising i remove the dough n preheat the oven. Been making my own yeasted breads for 13 years 😊 I love bread ❤
When you add the salt it slows down the yeast production, so if you make the same mistake as Trent you can always just let it rise a bit longer and eventually it will still produce a good rise
Those look great! I've never had orange zest in the filling, but it could be fun to try.
For the wash, you can add a bit of salt to the eggs. It should help break it down a bit so that there are no clumps. Or you could coat it with sugar water instead after baking. Greetings from Sweden!

Welcome to the world of yeasted breads! FYI, the t in "pestle" is silent, so it's pronounced to rhyme with "vessel".
