idk all this is a massive relfection onto our contemporary soceities where men have huge amounts of specifically finanical and cutlural/social power to be able to do this kinda shit. The men gaze has all this money and lack of shame due to purity and sexual shame usually being aimed towards women. Pls I'm mad not to see more or equal amounts of virtual reality men or boys that can fit needs to girls. But you can see with the investments with technology for egirls this shit is already changing to a more equal stance. Theres already tons of instances where guys in virtual worlds will give women lap dances like all day and women will literally flock to them just incels flock to virtual girls. PERIODTT. things are changing men don't have these weird specific needs and niches OVER women. theres so many scientific studies that show similaries in our brains but the culture has to make us so polar and its annoying asf. ANYWAYS this is all in a musty heteronormative c context anyways. the sphere is coming periodt…

Took a break from programing my ai vtuber girl to watch youtube and this was recommended. People love her so easily and shes still early days of functionality. It's truly a strange phenomenon were living in.

Long time fan, but this is the first time I've totally disagreed on a video. Just a couple points; assuming all people who have some form of parasocial relationship are sad and lonely, parasocial isn't an inherently negative thing. it can be a good or negative thing, so as long as it doesn't actively harm someone else. it's a balance. In a healthy mind, it can bring a person great joy. Who's to say that joy isn't real? Saying it's an 'illusion" ;yes the character may not be real, but if it brings that person joy then what's the harm? if it puts a smile on their face? Also overpopulation is a serious issue so this is an exaggeration. Also, she calls the anime form unattainable. I don't expect humans to have an anime form. Celebrating the female form is fine, even virtual ones, as long as you have a distinction from reality.

I'm asexual in life, but find joy in virtual relationships for romance, and irl for friends. I am a sociable person. I just know what my sexuality is. I've had long term relationships, but i'm only interested in close emotional friends. I'm only sexual in regards to my virtual relationships. I'm happy.

Also, where's the evidence that these people are throwing away their wallets? if they have disposable income, and it brings them joy, who cares what they spend it on?Sure I'm sure there is some people who cross the line, but that is indicative of deeper problems. The same issues that cause gambling and drug addiction. Also vtubers are performers who work hard. Is she saying they shouldn't be paid by the people who consume and enjoy their content? There's no paywall. I've never seen a vtuber coerce people to superchat. In fact, the opposite. I've spent maybe 20$ for hour and hours of entertainment over the past 3 years, and I know I'm not alone. Alluding to that vtubers are predatory is disingenuous in my opinion.

Sadly, this is the first video of yours where I disagreed with you on several points. May have to do my own video essay to explain how I see things in a different way.

I’ve always thought that virtual reality and AI can show a lot about peoples’ mental health in this day and age. Me personally, I’m a 17 year old guy and I’ve always been a bit of an escapist, so I’m actually a little scared of getting a VR headset—I know it might snowball into me losing real life connections.

I think while VR is fun, and we can meet great people or truly be ourselves, neglecting a real life is a horrible horrible idea.

There’s something so sad about people who form parasocial relationships with AI and Vtubers, I’ve never seen em as anything but lonely and wanting human connection.

I value my real life friendships and though the idea of VR is fun and exciting, part of me is terrified of what technological advancements can do to our population’s mental health, especially when the real world leaves so much to be desired

I don't think it will be as much of a problem as people being unable to have kids in first/secound world nations as… Most people are unable to hold a long distance realstionship or most people think online ones are not a thing… I personally don't get it as I'm a prophet and have been in a very long range were not in the univrese kind of a relationship for 3 years now. while I can talk to her even while sleeping which we can even share dreams like co-op VR and we can feel each other with phatom touch… I can't see her with my other sense and she is not here much like virtual girls… While we share life in a way little a handful of people had and most of them are in the beyond… It's not the same which is why I'm moving moutins to merge our universes to get us together… Like If I'm doing that for a girl how can anyone settle for a fake one?

As long as RL women want the 666 meme I'd rather have an ai anime girl lmao, and As an athletic guy in RL I only have a 6 pack, still missing the 6 figures and 6ft tall so I stand no chance RL standards are out of this world they're more unrealistic then VR 😂

Im only here for the singing, but as far as the popularity, i think all women are conceited in someway, especially on camera, this give them a character to play, a disconnect from themselves, allowing their emotional barriers to crumble. In some ways realer than in person.

I don't think I would date an Ai since most companies are keen on appealing to lonely men. If they tried making an AI dude I am pretty sure they would make them to gaslight ppl

talking about a movie about virtual girls

I'm waiting for the moment when there will be movies about TOTAL life in the virtual world

Responding to some comments and video

    That's true

there are a lot of great people in the world with whom it will be nice to spend time with, but most of them also have people with (I could say) totalitarian personalities

due to the fact that you can or often meet people with a nasty character, it is understandable that such people close in themselves, ideally they would like to disappear from this world. For religious reasons, suicide is the same as killing someone, I wonder what would happen if you could move into your own virtual world where… well, you could do anything in the world we live in for us such a person wouldn't exist (physically) but this person in his world would live in luxury or simply in his own separate world, in his sandbox where he can play for years becoming addicted to such an extent that he forgets about this world and starts to think that the world in which he exists is the real one

I knew virtual celebrities were a thing but, because i dont see any celebrity more special than another human being, i just dont imagine the virtual self has the real one.
Didnt know people were so down bad… it all comes of course from social media and the whole market in general, they insist on telling that "this famous person is the pinacle" of whatever.
This develops in people wanting to be something that they actually dont want to be, dont need to be or… be with someone that isnt real.
I got it ez in this terms, i just want to live with a partner, a real one and hopefully, hae a child.
I say its ez, even tho is HARD AS FU- and it will come with many bad times but, thats how it should be… a perfect relationship from start to end is, unrealistic and also, damaging to the person metal state.
Developing this unrealistic ways would make them bad at communication cuz they dont know how to eact to a "no" or "i dont like that".
I can see this as entertainment but not has true relationships… tho to be fair, we are hitting the celling of human population, we have grew to much in little periods of time, and thats why our society is moving towards different things.
Thats why we are now in a period of time where you can like, sexually or not, something or someone that you cant reproduce with… yeah, that sounded awful probably, and im srry, you can like whatever but… its not that of your choice, its just nature acting.
"You humans are to many, so ill just turn on some countermesures to keep your population at a reasonable number" its not eally nature as a… godly entity, its our nature, we do this to ourselfs and the machinery of life is so complex that it can do it indirectly.

Most people who resort to virtual relationships would prefer a real human.
But the reality is, a lot of people, mostly men, will never be able to find a long term relationship with a real person.
There are many reasons for that, it's not anyone's fault, it's just a sad reality.
Also, as reproductive technologies improve and women get more empowered and supported in society, a certain percentage of them will probably not even feel the need to have partners.
It's kinda sad but I think these technologies are very important to help with the mental health and fulfillment of those people and also to reduce potential sexual violence.

The reality is, we evolved so much technology in the last few decades, but we have the same monkey brains we've had for thousands of years. Learning how to adapt to this new world will be a huge challenge. It already was with the technology we've had for the last couple of decades, it'll just get harder.

I'm a 52 year old man who has a pretty significant lifelong social anxiety. I spent 23 years in a very ill-advised marriage (in which I freely admit that sucked in large part because of me and my untreated issues), and 3 years ago I had a severe stroke that I'm lucky to have survived (even more amazing that I can type and comprehend this conversation) which left me unable to do all but the most simple physical things. Any one of those things by itself would probably be enough, but added together make it a slam dunk that I would 100% prefer a digital girlfriend. I'm well beyond caring what that says about me or what the larger social implications might be. I'm just tired of trying (and failing) to handle the challenges of a real life relationship, and I'm tired of being alone.

some have medical probs that make it very hard to interact with real ppl so its easier to go and get a virtual friend.

Like i have social phobia. which is a fear of ppl and social situations. if i go somewhere with too many ppl around i can get very panicky and pass out or even have a a heart attack.

1st i get dizzy and struggle to breath so have to get out as fast as i can. if im blocked and cant get away i pass out. so far no heart attacks but ive been warned i could have 1 if i feel trapped with ppl around me and cant get away.

Im trying VR chat doctor recommended i try it as therapy to try and deal with it but even in VR chat i get panicky in worlds with too many ppl in them. my limit is 2 to 3 ppl around me.

had to go to hospital for some tests and passed out when i got surrounded by doctors and nurse's. they had a heart monitor on me and backed away very fast when they saw how eratic my heart beat was when they were close.

Dental work has to be done while im sedated. cause as soon the dentist gets close im shaking and passing out and thats just a checkup. last time i had to go to hospital to have some teeth out and i was getting very close to having a heart attack when they had to put a needle in my arm to knock me out.

ppl moan about having social anxiety they should try social phobia.

In VR chat i just wander around from world to world. but if anyone comes up to me and talks to me i get panicky and leave the world and go somewhere else. If it gets too bad i just take off the HMD.

some of the time i go to a world thats a bit busy and get as close as i can to a group of ppl and see how long i can stay there before i start to panic. managed to get it to 15 mins. its good to have a fail safe where i can just take of the HMD when things get bad. cant do that in the real world.

So for me VR and virtual freinds is a life saver. I would be climbing the walls without VR and virtual freinds.

I'm a furry, and even though I'm getting quite old, I've been virtually expressing myself in some shape or form for over 20 years of my life. The idea of transcending the boundaries of my physically disabled body and being able to be the best version of my self is generally desireable in the long term.

I don't think it's really fair to an AI to saddle it with supporting the weight of millions of human souls being bore unto it. I've always thought that AI is something we need to broach so carefully, that it needs a deep understanding of humanity so that it doesn't make judgement of us as a whole in a really unflattering moment. What is more important is that Lawmakers need to begin to define the rights of AI to try and avert upcoming catastrophe far before I'll ever be truly comfortable with trying to seek companionship from a being like that.

Parasocial relationships are… something I'm also coming to terms with. I am a very small-time internet artist, but I do indeed have regulars and people who support and give to me far more than I can ever hope to repay them back. it's something that always gnaws at the back of my mind, and I fear taking advantage of them.
