If it’s me, I’m taking American Woman over Fly Away. Fly Away is dull, unimaginative drivel, sounding like something any competent rock musician could come up with in under half an hour, but American Woman takes a classic, and not only makes it boring, but removes the two coolest parts. Not just the guitar lick you mentioned, but also the acoustic blues “American Woman, gonna mess your mind” opener that wasn’t in the radio cut.
So it took the coolest parts out, and Lenny sleepwalks his way through singing it. The original had some punch, some bite to its delivery. Lenny completely defanged it. If you’re gonna cover any song, you’d better bring something special to the table, and Lenny brought boredom to it.

Dude, that was insane!! I’m in the UK so I know next to nothing about the game, but that was effing hilarious. What I like about your videos is that they make me think about the craft of writing a song. I actually like Flyaway, but because of this video, I’m now looking at in a different way. If can avoid the same mistakes in my own music, there’s a chance it won’t suck completely. So thanks for posting this. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this gorgeous piece of insanity. I know I'm late to the party, but: the FIRST TIME I heard fly away, the riff immediately made me angry. By the time 'maybe mars' happened, I had experienced all the stages of grief, lost all hope for humankind ever creating anything worthwhile, and accepted our grim fate. The saddest part is that I still don't know which song is worse.
Looking back. Overtime should’ve been the idea of what’s worse? Covering and great song and making a shitty version. Or writing an absolute stinker of an original song? I think it’s making a bad cover especially in this case.

Personally, I am a fan of Lenny Kravitz, and both of these songs are in my top 5 of his songs.
1.) Rock and Roll is dead.
2.) Are you gonna go my way.
3.) Fly Away
4.) It ain't over til it's over.
5.) American Women
But I have to say "American Woman" is worse than "Fly Away" because of the "Bye Bye" section of American Woman. I'm a fan and I gotta skip that part.
